Day 1: Plateau, Corniche and sunset at the Mamelles
The first day stays within inner-city Dakar, on foot and by taxi. Keep the journeys short: the Plateau clogs up between 8 am and 9:30 am, then again from 5:30 pm.

On a short format, no. A night on Gorée means carrying your luggage on the ferry and losing half a day to logistics. The island visit fits into a morning if you leave early. Sleeping on Gorée is worth it mainly for a longer stay, when you are after the quiet once the visitors have left.
For the first two days, entirely within Dakar, a taxi is enough. For the third day that leaves the city, a car with a driver or a self-drive hire becomes clearly more practical, as excursions are awkward by taxi and the late return is hard to negotiate.
